History

CrossPoint began in September, 1969, when a group of Christians from neighboring Christian Reformed churches decided to begin a new congregation. Those charter members wanted to be part of a church that was part of the Chino and Ontario, California community. They chose the name Calvary, and began ministry by renting space in a local Christian school.

Property was purchased, and our first facility was built in 1971 at Walnut and Ross Avenues in Chino, California. This facility was expanded in 1981 to serve the growing congregation.

While the first building was being completed, the first pastor arrived. Pastor Art Schoonveld served our church for 6 years. He left in 1977 to serve another congregation in Chicago.

In 1977 Pastor Al Mulder arrived. Ministry continued to expand under his leadership and the church continued to grow as a variety of people joined our membership.

Pastor Bruce Ballast joined Pastor Al in 1983 to form the first team ministry. In 1985, Pastor Al left to start a new church in the Pismo Beach, California area. Team ministry continued, however, with the arrival of Pastor Don Klop in 1985.

In the 1980’s the congregation continued to grow. The building was expanded again in 1990 with a master plan that anticipated additional expansion later. Staff continued to expand throughout the 80’s and 90’s as the congregation became more diverse and larger.

In 2002, a decision was made to purchase land for relocation of our ever growing ministry. We purchased 24 acres at the corner of Edison and Euclid and developed a plan for a new campus. We sold our facility and moved into temporary facilities in a warehouse on Eucalyptus in Chino.

We changed our name in 2004 to CrossPoint Church.

The first phase of our campus was completed and occupied in April, 2005.
